Elena Cohen is deeply grateful to return to her Western Massachusetts roots as part of Senator Comerford’s team. She grew up in the Pioneer Valley and attended Mount Holyoke College, where she majored in Critical Social Thought.
For the last eight years Elena has lived in New York City. Most recently, she worked at the NYC Commission on Human Rights, a city agency charged with protecting New Yorkers from discrimination, where she organized the agency’s response to incidents of discriminatory harassment. Elena earned her Master’s in Social Work from Hunter College’s Silberman School, focusing on Community Organizing, Planning, and Development. Prior to graduate school, she worked at Facing History and Ourselves, an education nonprofit that encourages young people to stand up to bigotry through the study of history. Elena also had the privilege of traveling throughout the country recording stories for the oral history project, StoryCorps.
Elena loves work that enables her to build relationships, help people feel heard, and make our world a more just place.
